Amazonia houses a collection of Amazonian flora and fauna plus a number of rare species of Amazonian animals. The collection of animals and plant life is unique to any zoo in Britain and all are rainforest creatures. Amazonia re-creates the temperature of the Amazon and visitors can witness a range of creatures and listen to educational talks delivered by the attraction’s staff.
The centre also has a darkened area known as the ‘cave’ where, due to a trick of light, nocturnal animals behave as they would in their natural habitats allowing the visitor to see fruit bats and mini crocodiles act in a similar way to they would at night.

Castle And Gardens Of Mey

The Queen Mother first saw what was then Barrogill Castle in 1952, while mourning the death of her husband, King George VI. Falling for its isolated charm and hearing it was to be abandoned, she decided to save it.
Having acquired the most northerly inhabited castle on the British mainland, The Queen Mother renovated and restored it and created the beautiful gardens you see today. For almost half a century she spent many happy summers here and shorter visits at other times of the year.
Visit Scotland gave The Castle and Gardens of Mey their highest award of a 5 Star quality assurance grading after their unannounced visit in May 2009, which included assessing the gardens, animal centre, gift shop and tearoom.

Aboard the newly furnished Steamship Sir Walter Scott you can enjoy the beauty of Loch Katrine. The perfect opportunity to sail on the historic steamship Sir Walter Scott, nobly cruising these waters for over a century, is an experience to treasure. As you depart from Trossachs Pier or Stronachlachar, you discover that you are slowing down to travel at a more gentle pace, the beauty of the loch unfolding before you in harmony with the gentle rhythm of the steam engine.
As you travel, the tales and legends of the loch will be narrated by a member of the ship’s crew, and you will be struck by the beauty of the landscape, the very scenery which captured the imagination of Sir Walter Scott, inspiring him to write his poem “The Lady of the Lake”.
On-board amenities on the ship include comfortable saloons, toilet facilities, and a kiosk, selling gifts, souvenirs and refreshments, including hot and cold drinks.

Tiverton Castle

Few buildings evoke such a feeling of history as venerable Tiverton Castle.
Originally built in 1106 by order of Henry I, and later rebuilt and much enlarged in the 13th and 14th centuries, it was once home of the powerful medieval Earls of Devon and of a Plantagenet Princess. With later additions and alterations down the centuries all periods of architecture from medieval to modern can be seen, with beautiful walled gardens within the romantic ruins.
Besieged during the English Civil War by General Sir Thomas Fairfax, it fell due to a lucky shot hitting a drawbridge chain. This was the only time in its long history that it saw battle.
A fun place for children to visit - try on Civil War armour, see medieval loos, hear about ghosts and secret passages

Cornish Maize Maze & Fun Farm

Everyone will be buzzin' around to help the Honeyheros at the 2011 Maize Maze near Saltash. Your help is needed to search for the flowers around the maze and bring the nectar home to give the bees enough strength to find a new hive and build a new colony!
The game centres on the search for nectar and the pollination of plants. Collection of nectar from all the plants will give the code for the 'Dance of the Bees' and lead you to the location of the new hive. The theme will explore the importance of Bees as pollinators, their role in food production and as indicators of the health of the countryside. A maze with 3 miles of paths including two look out towers has been shaped into a buzzin' bee this year! Can you find your way out?!
As well as this massive maze you can bounce on bouncy castles and trampolines, climb to the top of a huge bale tower, swing on swings, play giant Jenga, dig in the massive sandpit and meet lots of farm and rare breed animals. Farmer Jones is even able to take you on a tractor and trailer ride!
A gift shop and cafe aswell as lots of picnic space are also on site.
The Maze and fun Farm are open every day from 23rd July until 4th September 10.30am-5pm and every weekend in September.
For a really scary experience, the maze is open on the first two Saturdays in September for torch light fun from 7pm-11pm. Do you dare to enter The Maze in the dark!!!!

Hampshire Cricket

Standing proud against a backdrop of the rolling Hampshire hills, The Rose Bowl's new East and West Stands are a monument to the ambition of a ground which is now right at the forefront of International Cricket.
Completed last year, the stands are the latest milestone in an ambitious project which was started 10 years ago when the club moved from their previous home at Northlands Road in Southampton to their current site just outside Hedge End. Since then the ground has grown at a phenomenal rate and the plaudits have flown in as a result.
In 2010 the ground was rated "Best International Cricket Ground" in the England and Wales Cricket Board [ECB] annual customer survey and "Most improved Cricket Ground" by readers of leading national magazine, All Out Cricket.

Knowsley Safari Park

Knowsley Safari Park on Merseyside which celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, remains one of the North West's most popular attractions.
The park on the Earl of Derby's estate gives visitors the chance to get 'up close and personal' with around 700 exotic animals from all over the globe. These include rhinos, camels, buffalo, bison, wildebeest, lions, tigers, monkeys, deer, antelope, wallabies and - of course - Knowsley's infamous baboons!
Highlights at Knowsley this year include three white rhino calves - Troy, Rosie and Bugo - and the park's biggest-ever pride of lions.
Other attractions include the safari village with its miniature railway and a walkaround animal area where elephants, giraffes, meerkats and otters can be viewed at close quarters.
A major feature in this area is the park's revamped sealion facility, with a larger outdoor pool and underwater viewing facilities, which enable visitors to watch the sealions' antics throughout the day, not just at show times.
Meanwhile, Knowsley's Bug House offers everything from snakes and lizards to spiders and cockroaches, creatures a world away from the goats, lambs, cattle and horses for the children to enjoy at Lake Farm.
Knowsley is also home to Aerial Extreme - the North West's largest adventure ropes course - and an amusement park with a wide selection of rides for the family. (Additional costs apply for the ropes course and rides).

You can visit the John Reed Gallery, named after Brigadier John Reed who established the museum in 1984. It's in one of the only two surviving barrack bungalows built in North Camp in the 1890s. You can see the recreated barrack displays of the 1890s and 1950s, or even a married quarter living room of the 1960s. Along side hundreds of objects ranging from a hoof pick to a search light, there are also many things to do. For younger (or older!) visitors there are puzzle cubes, a training tunnel, 'feely boxes' - you can even take a 'ride' in a tank. If you dare you can also be shouted at by a drill sergeant!

During the 19th Century it was stripped of furniture and panelling and the shell was left almost derelict. But in 1923 it was bought for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, which restored it and now opens it to the public.
